This prolific spring and summer crop, the Black Turtle Kidney Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) is a grand addition to the annual crop rotation, being a legume, as it fixes nitrogen in the soil via the plant's roots, which is beneficial to the growth of itself and nearby plants. Can be grown as a cover crop and chopped-and-dropped, or to harvest young and/or mature beans. A versatile and and charming plant indeed!
Best grown from mid-spring in a part- or full Sun location. Plant about 1-2cm deep in soil or compost and water in thoroughly. You can harvest young, green pods for eating raw or steamed, as well as the dried, mature beans. 20 beans can give you a grand ol' harvest, with enough to share with family and friends!
Wishing you all the very best and Happy Growing!
